Boy, this time is flying by fast, we had a great Young Eagles Flight last weekend and next weekend is our Pancake Breakfast, we need lots of help, starting Friday night (May 4), to get things set up and then early on Saturday AM.

We will have our regular meeting on May 9, let's eat before hand at the Gooseberry Patch, 5:45 PM. Grant has made arrangements to have Chris Baskin of Steel City Aviation for our program this month.

This month's aviation website is www.landings.com <http://www.landings.com> check it out, it has about everything. Jim P.

Minutes:

EAA 808 April meeting, 4/11/07, meeting called to order by President Pinkerton.

Communications: The Liberty Bell is coming to COS on 4, 15 & 16. We have gotten a couple contacts regarding the Fly-in.

Minutes from last meeting: Bob A. corrected that he was not the one who was to contact car clubs.

Treas. Report: $2632.59, plus a $10 rebate from EAA national for a membership.

Old Business:

Fly-in Carol A. is not here. Insurance is covered. Time 7:30 - 10 AM. Use Andersons Food Service as supplier again, just need to contact them. We will plan for 150 this year. Bev has spoken with Charlene, who will supply 2 large coffee pots. Jim has a large coffee pot, also. Dean and Leonard will bring roasters. Cooks are to be Leonard and Grant. We will need 4 for serving and cashier. Shannon, Jeanne, Carol, Dick C. Carol A. will do the supply purchasing. Jim is doing publicity and has contacted the paper. He also has flyers people can take to distribute. We will need extension cords: Dean and Bob. Signs are with the supplies in Walt/Bev's hanger, but they need to be moved to someone else's as Walt & Bev might not be here for the fly-in. Dick says we have plenty of tables and chairs. Dick will arrange for an extra porta-potty. Carol will bring some green chili for extra cost. We should charge $5.00 again. No freebies for pilots. Need to set a time for when to do setup: probably

Friday night at 6:00 PM with dinner afterward.

YE Rally:: Changed to Saturday, 4/21/07, Christian Fellowship church group from Canon and a group from Mc Kinley Elementary in Canon. Possibly 20 kids altogether. Bev will call if we need to cancel due to weather. Lou Spera, Bill Peck, Tom Schilf, (Grant S. reserve) possible pilots. Meet at 8AM and fly at 8:30 AM.

New Business:

Suggestion made to have more parties during the summer. Maybe changing meetings during summer to be on Sat. afternoon. Saturday, June 16, we will meet at Giffin's hanger, 12 Noon for burgers and then meeting. Will discuss more at the next meeting. Motion/sec/passed

Dick has been talking to the Liberty Bell people about swinging through here in September.

Tonight's Presentation: Fremont County Airport Current Status and Plans, by Richard Baker, Airport Manager

Dick passed out handouts for the airport capital improvement, a 6 year plan. This year they will be doing a pavement improvement project. Federal funding should be available towards the end of the month. With Doss Aviation flying in here, it gives us enough activity that we can fund a parallel taxiway between A2 and A3. Estimate of 30K operations by Doss here over the next 4 years. Also Air tanker operations, but that's always an unknown.

Dick says it would be OK to put his chart on our website. Regarding fuel sales, Dick passed out a graph of the volume from 1995 to present. Jet fuel has outpaced avgas and that's a national trend. Major airports are charging a $ .10 a gallon flowage (usage) fee, and a lot of airports are going to unattended fuel. On the graph, fuel spikes were due to major fires in the area. Other projects: AWOTS, working to tie into national weather circuit but expensive since there are only two carriers and it's a monopoly. Maybe next year. Sealcoat projects costs for materials have tripled, so will reduce project to main parking area and taxi to runways. If funds go further will do hanger taxiways, a sealcoat typically lasts 2-5 years. Won't sealcoat the compass rose. Will try and remove the old fuel tank next week. No problems with leakage so far though. No news on a restaurant yet, and are advertising and trying to see the equipment in place. Would like someone to work on weekends. Averaging

150 Doss operations per month now, only during the week.

Working on a 5 year plan. Plan to move the Forest Service to south side of runway, but will depend on when funds will be available. Would be a permanent base. Forest Service has 5 year contract with Queen Bee out of Idaho to run air tankers. Glider hanger is still up for sale.

Two more hangers in the works, over on the east side of Leonard's. Airport ALP funding for a lot of airports, starting this year, Aspen, Meeker, Rifle, COS., but Dick's biggest worry is that the county here will have the money when it come time to pay their share. FAA requires 98% compaction which means a lot of water spread daily. The million gallon tank helps, but the high school is using 64,000 gallon of water per month.

THIS SPECIAL NOTE FROM BEV GIFFIN ON YOUNG EAGLE FLIGHTS.

On April 21, Chapter 808 held another YE rally at Fremont County airport. Thank goodness, the weather gods smiled upon us and we were able to fly 48 eager youngsters. A BIG THANKS to our 8 pilots, which included 5 RV's flown by: John Barger, Mel Barto, Rick Loeffler, Bill Peck and Lou Spera. We also had three 4-place airplanes flown by: Mick Jackson, Merele Manwiler and Tom Schilf. Many thanks also go to our ground crew. We were so busy that some of them doubled up their duties --- Shannon and Dick Crouse, Walt Giffin, Jim Pinkerton, Jane Roche (99's), Grant Schemmel, Paula Schilf, and Phyllis Wells. We now have a total of 71 YE's flown to date because of Tom Schilf, who flew 6 YE's and Bill Peck who flew 15 on St. Patrick's Day. Thanks again everyone for helping to make this a success. Thanks again, Bev. Giffin, YE Coordinator

Our sincere sympathy is extended to the family of Lee Porter. Lee's memorial service was held on Saturday, April 28. Lee was a very active member of Chapter 808 EAA until failing health limited his activity.
