Message from Jim's Loft. Regular meeting, September 12, 7:15 PM, dinner at the Gooseberry Patch, 5:45 PM. This is going to be short; we just returned from another mini vacation up in the mountains, did a little hiking and fishing. Had a great time.

We are badly in need of a Newsletter Editor, Charlene has done it for a very long time and it is time for someone else to step to the plate and take on this job for the Chapter. Please, give me a call if you are interested in this. We want to give Charlene a Big Thank you for her service to the Chapter.

As some of you know Fred Daams and I are building a 1910 Bleriot XI for the Pueblo Air Museum. With the help of a couple fellows from Pueblo that are building some of the fittings and castings, this has been a fun project. I plan on bringing some of the tail to the meeting for all to see. I am turning out all of the wood pieces for the fuselage and Fred is assembling them in his garage. We have the basic fuselage all put together and the wire bracing in it. Now starting on the front end with all its pieces for the engine mount and landing gear. If you don't remember what a Bleriot looks like go on line, there is lots of info there.

Last but not least, Welcome home Randy, a newly retired Federal Employee.

See you on the 12th, Jim P.

MINUTES: Minutes of the regular meeting of EAA 808. Wednesday, August 8, 2007. Time 7:00 PM. Location: Fremont County Airport. The regular meeting of the Experimental Aircraft Association Chapter 808 met at 7 PM after having supper at the Gooseberry Patch Restaurant. It was held at the EAA 808 building at the Fremont County Airport. There were 7 members present with one guest, the guest speaker, Christina Baski, Chief Flight Instructor for Steel City Aviation.

The meeting was called to order and last month's minutes were approved. No Treasurer's report was presented.

OLD BUSINESS: Those who went to Airventure told of their experiences and copies of Airventure Today magazines were passed around. Discussions centered around the theatre in the woods presentations, user fees and the P51 accident.

There were considerable changes in the EAA Young Eagles sign up form. All old ones need to be destroyed. The new forms have improved leaglese requiring the pilots to provide proof of insurance and the adult approving the students must be the child's parent or guardian. The required insurance amounts are unchanged. During Airventure, the EAA made it clear that Airventure is not an EAA event.

Several people came back from Airventure with ideas to improve YE events. Bev Giffin gave a report explaining how other Chapters conduct their YE events. Some even have weekend long campouts and other interesting things to do while waiting for their flights. Jim Pinkerton brought a folder that could be given or sold to YE children that had flight information, a CD and a flight simulator DVD. Bev Giffin found aviation playing cards that the 808 could buy for $1.50 and resell.

NEW BUSINESS:

It was decided to wait to set a date for the next Young Eagles event for a meeting with a better turnout of pilots and ground crew.

Walt Giffin brought the rudder pedal assembly that failed on his Kit Fox. A new improved pedal assembly is coming from the factory. Dean Baird suggested interior equipment should be added to your preflight check list.

Dick Baker wants the 808 to do another breakfast to generate traffic at the airport. No decisions were made until it is certain there will be enough people to help.

Charlene is resigning as newsletter editor due to increased demands at her tax service. Grant recommended waiting to appoint a new editor until the position can be discussed at the next meeting.

COMMITTEE REPORTS -- none. Meeting adjourned. Submitted: Dale Boody, Sec.

PROGRAM: Christina Baski, Chief Flight Instructor for Steel City Aviation gave a presentation about women in aviation. Several firsts for women were mentioned, like the first woman to solo, the first women's pilot organization, the 99's, the first woman airline pilot, the first woman astronaut, the first woman fighter pilot. A few of her observations while training pilots: women have a lighter touch on the controls and quicker radio pickup, while men are mechanical and have better eye-hand coordination. When asked about sport planes, she said Steel City Aviation might get a light sport to rent if they can justify its limited use and higher costs.

THIS NOTE FROM CHARLENE: As noted in the minutes of the August meeting, I am requesting that someone else take over the Chapter Newsletter. My involvement with AARP Tax aide is taking much more of my time. I have enjoyed putting out the newsletter and hope that is was of benefit to the Chapter. I enjoyed receiving e-mails back from various people about the news in the newsletter, it was a very rewarding job, but now is the time to move on, SO if there is someone out there that would like to take over, I would pass on all the e-mail addresses and snail mail addresses, membership list and a disk with the newsletter "letter head" on it, so you would not be starting from scratch. Please, someone step forward and take over, this will be my last newsletter for the Chapter.
